New Delhi: The Union HRD Ministry on Friday appointed former US Ambassador to India Josh Earnest as India’s next chief human resources (HR) minister.
Lohia is expected to be inaugurated on Sunday as the new minister of HRD.
The appointment comes a day after US President Donald Trump appointed LohIA as the next US ambassador to India, and in a meeting with Modi.
The HRD ministry has also said it is looking for an officer with a high level of experience in US HR, to be its new director general.
Lahia will be the first Indian-American to serve as India HR minister.
The appointment of Lohias new hire comes as Lohian is seeking to fix the human resources situation in India.
Lohan has been the HR director at the US Embassy in New Delhi since March 2017.
The job was then shared by former US Vice President Joe Biden and former US Secretary of State Jeh Johnson.
In her recent letter to Modi, Lohiani had expressed concern over “a lack of accountability in HR policies” and “a need for a holistic approach to HR”.
Lohian was appointed to the post on January 18, after serving in that capacity for seven years as the chief HR officer at the United Nations in New York.
She has been a vocal critic of the US administration and the way HR policies have been implemented in India, especially by the government.
She has also spoken out against the Indian government’s efforts to curb the rise of the H1-B visa programme, which is used to hire top Indian IT workers from abroad.
