Fox News has fired a reporter for the network’s news division for “unfair coverage” of the Brett Kavanaugh sexual misconduct investigation, the network said Thursday.
The network fired investigative reporter John Solomon in an email to employees, and said he will not be back on the network, according to a statement released by NBC News and the network.
Solomon has covered national politics and politics for NBC News since 2001.
In a separate statement to The Associated Press, Solomon’s bosses at NBC News said the firing was “a matter of fairness and accountability.”
The statement said Solomon “was disciplined for his coverage of Brett Kavanaugh” and for “conduct that he deeply regrets.”
Solomon is a former bureau chief at NBC and NBC News.
Solomons reporting has also come under fire for not disclosing he was a Republican candidate for Senate in 2016.
In a separate incident, Solomon said in an interview with NBC News that he did not know that a member of the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Devin Nunes, was the source of a Washington Post article alleging that Trump aides discussed Russia sanctions with Nunes before Nunes said he had seen evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.
The report by The Washington Post said that Nunes and his aides had seen an email chain between a senior Trump aide and a Russian official.
Nunes has said that his sources for the story were sources at NBC.
Nunes has said the Trump White House sought to influence him on a dossier, which Nunes later retracted.
