— The human resources association of the U.S. military said Monday it will help companies hire more workers in a bid to recruit more people who can perform tasks such as tracking customer orders and handling calls.
G4S will be the first of several companies to hire at least 10 new HR professionals by the end of the year.
The new hires will help fill positions with people who specialize in certain jobs and are expected to be needed to assist the company in its efforts to boost its ability to provide customer service and support, said Julie Schmitt, a spokeswoman for the association.
“The G4S HR team has made a significant impact on our organization and is a great asset for the organization,” Schmitt said in an email.
“This is a new era for the company and we are eager to help.”
The association is the nation’s largest for HR professionals.
About 5 million people work for the military, the National Guard and private companies that handle military contracts.
Garrett said the association is considering hiring some of its top HR personnel, including those who are veterans, but that it does not have a firm plan yet for how it will hire more of its employees.
The company will have to make those hires before the end the year, Garrett said.
A number of other companies also are exploring hiring at least some of their workers through HR-training programs, which offer companies training on the job and help companies better prepare for future challenges.
The hiring of new employees is expected to add another 2,000 jobs by the middle of next year, the association said in a statement.
It did not say when or how many of those new jobs would come from the military.
The company said it plans to hire more people through its human resources programs, but the new hires would not be new employees and would be on the payroll for at least a year.
“We are excited to hire our first workforce of the new year,” Garrett said in the statement.
“We are always looking for new ways to provide our customers with the best customer experience.”
Garrett also said the company plans to expand its HR operations to include other types of employees, such as salespeople and office managers, who are needed to help with its recruiting efforts.
“This will allow us to increase our workforce to help provide customer support and support services for the entire military and to ensure that our business operations remain competitive,” Garrett added.
